Quality Enhancement Cell
Realizing the challenges to be faced in the field of higher education during 21st century the University of Malakand has established the Quality Enhancement Cell in 2011. The objective is to support the university in its endeavors to improve the standard of education and research and make it compatible with international requirements.
The QEC is responsible to promote higher standards of education and research in the university and is required to promote public confidence in the quality and standard of the degrees awarded by the university.
Workshop
The QEC Office prepared a proposal for series of workshops to be held in the month of November 2012-March 2013.The Honorable Vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Johar Ali approved the schedule & Financial Resources for workshops. The Two days training workshop on “Self-Assessment Procedure” held on 27th - 28th February 2013 at 10:30am in digital Lab, University of Malakand.
Day-1
The workshop Secretary, Mr. Jahangir Khan Deputy Director QEC welcomed the participants, Resource Person and the Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Johar Ali Vice Chancellor, University of Malakand. The Workshop formally started with the Recitation of Holy Quran by Mr. Abdul Haq Department of Islamic Studies & Religious Affairs. The Deputy Director QEC thanked the Honorable Vice Chancellor, University of Malakand on his efforts for strengthening the QEC activities in University of Malakand. He explained the objectives of the workshop.
Objective
The primary objective of the workshop was
- to share in-depth knowledge about the concept of “Quality Assurance”
- to share in-depth knowledge about the concept of “Self-Assessment Procedure”
- Enhance student learning.
- to maintain and continuously enhance academic standard
- Provide feedback for quality assurance of academic program.
Dean/Director QEC Welcome Speech
Prof. Dr. Rahmat Ali Khan Dean of Sciences/Director QEC, welcome to the Chief Guest, honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Johar Ali and thanked the participants for attending the QEC Workshop. The Director QEC emphasized on quality of education. He said that quality does not happen by accident, it has to be planned. He concluded that there is quite close relationship between prosperity of nation & quality of education.
Vice Chancellor University of Malakand
It is a pleasure to see proactive HEC taking steps to reform higher education in Pakistan. This opportunity needs to be acknowledged and taken advantage of in terms of improving the academic worth of our students, researchers and faculty members. Our PhD faculty has been increased due to excellent strategy of the HEC. I appreciate QEC, University of Malakand for arranging series of workshops. On behalf of the UOM, I assure that I will extend all possible support and assistance to facilitate and allow such healthy activities in future.
Resource Person
Prof. Dr. Rahmat Ali Khan was the resource person who is a very eminent scholar in mathematics and the Dean of sciences/Director QEC, University of Malakand Chakdara Dir (L). He completed PhD at University of Glasgow UK & Post-Doctorate from the University of Dayton, Ohio, USA. In view of his contributions, HEC awarded him Best University Teacher’s Award in 2010. He has published 78 research papers in International Journals with 342 number of citation in Google scholar and 37.5 impact factors. In 2011 he received Research Productivity Award (Category D) from Pakistan Council of Science and Technology (PCST), Islamabad. He has delivered several lectures as invited speaker in different national and international conferences and other academic forums.
Methodology
The methodology of the workshop was very simple, comprehensive & understandable.

He explained “Self-Assessment Procedures” in detail by taking University of Malakand as the primary case study. He briefed in detail the all eight criteria (1) “Program Mission Objectives and Outcomes, (2) Curriculum Design and Organization, (3) Laboratories and Computing Facilities, (4) Student Support and Advising. All standards of the four criteria were also briefed with examples. The participants took colossal interest throughout the workshop and various questions were asked related to the different criteria and standards.
Day-2
On the 2nd day workshop started at 10:30 am with the recitation of holy Quran by Mr. Akbar Amin Department of Management studies. The Deputy Director QEC welcomed the participants.
The Director QEC explained “Self-Assessment Procedures” in detail by taking University of Malakand as the primary case study. He explained in detail the next four criteria (5) Process Control, (6) Faculty, (7) Institutional Facilities, (8) Institutional Support. (All standards of the next four criteria were also briefed with examples. The participants took gigantic interest throughout the workshop and various questions were asked related to the different criteria and standards.
The workshop was attended by 37 participants including chairmen of few departments, members of Program Teams, faculty of constituents Departments & QEC Staff.
At the end he Deputy Director also thanked the participants and the resource person.
